Morocco’s film industry took another step onto the international stage during the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, where a broad range of Moroccan productions, filmmakers and development projects attracted attention from industry professionals, investors and international partners. The Kingdom’s participation highlighted both the growing maturity of its cinema sector and its ambition to expand its global footprint.

Several Moroccan works earned prestigious showcases during the festival. Director Laïla Marrakchi saw her feature film La Más Dulce selected for the “Un Certain Regard” section, while filmmaker Saïd Hamich Benlarbi presented his medium-length film In Search of the Grey Bird with Green Stripes at the Directors’ Fortnight, one of Cannes’ most respected parallel programs.

Moroccan projects also gained visibility at the Cannes Film Market. Among the productions drawing industry interest were Wolfmother by Ismaël El Iraki and Left Behind by Kenza Tazi. Another project, Loucham, presented by Samia Zerrou, secured additional exposure and is scheduled to appear at the upcoming Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Beyond screenings and project presentations, Moroccan creators used Cannes as a platform to explore international co-production opportunities and new financing channels. According to the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre, the strong reception received by several projects demonstrated the increasing ability of Moroccan productions to attract foreign partners and integrate into global funding networks.

Morocco’s appeal as a filming destination was also reinforced during the festival. The presentation of La Bataille de Gaulle, directed by Antonin Baudry and partly filmed in Morocco, highlighted the confidence international productions continue to place in the country. Modern infrastructure, diverse filming locations, experienced crews and the national cash rebate incentive program remain key factors behind that attractiveness.

Moroccan representatives were equally active in industry discussions and professional forums. Senior figures from the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre participated in debates focused on the future of cinema markets across Africa and the Middle East, while filmmakers and producers contributed to conversations about emerging talent, new storytelling trends and international collaboration.

The Moroccan Pavilion at the Cannes Film Market once again served as a central meeting point for networking, promotion and partnership building. Its presence underlined Morocco’s long-term strategy of positioning itself not only as a filming destination but also as a rising creative force within the global film industry
