Morocco has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting African-led solutions for peace, security, and sustainable development by participating in the second Policy Conference on the Peace, Security and Development Nexus, held on July 11 and 12 in Mombasa, Kenya.
The Moroccan delegation is headed by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The conference brings together African institutions, international organizations and development partners to strengthen cooperation around the continent’s most pressing challenges.
The meeting builds on the momentum created by the Tangier Process, launched during the first Policy Conference hosted by Morocco in Tangier in October 2022. That gathering resulted in the adoption of the Tangier Declaration, which established a common African framework linking peace, security and development through coordinated public policies, stronger partnerships and practical projects.
Since then, the Tangier Process has evolved into a key continental platform for dialogue, bringing together organizations including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Export-Import Bank and the African Development Bank to advance integrated development strategies.
The Mombasa conference is reviewing progress achieved since the adoption of the Tangier Declaration while identifying new operational mechanisms to accelerate its implementation across Africa.
Discussions are organized around five thematic panels covering the execution of flagship projects, the role of artificial intelligence and youth-driven innovation, the relationship between security expenditure and economic development, financing mechanisms for Nexus initiatives, and lessons drawn from African Union support for countries undergoing complex political transitions.
During the event, Morocco is presenting its integrated vision that places national ownership, regional cooperation and concrete action at the center of sustainable peace efforts. The Kingdom is also highlighting the importance of African solutions tailored to the continent’s priorities and realities, reflecting its long-standing commitment to strengthening stability, development and collective resilience across Africa.
