A German national wanted by international authorities has been arrested in Tangier as Moroccan security services intensified cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies in the fight against cross-border crime.
The 26-year-old suspect was apprehended by police after investigations revealed he was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by German judicial authorities, as well as an Interpol Red Notice linked to serious crimes allegedly committed in Germany since 2021.
According to security sources, the individual is suspected of involvement in unlawful confinement, kidnapping, extortion, and threats involving violence and intimidation. Preliminary findings also indicate that he entered Morocco using forged German travel documents and fraudulent identity cards.
The arrest was carried out following close coordination between Morocco’s National Police, known as the DGSN, and Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office. Information-sharing between the two agencies played a key role in locating and apprehending the suspect.
Authorities have placed the man in custody while a judicial investigation, supervised by the competent public prosecutor, seeks to determine the full circumstances surrounding the use of forged documents and possible identity theft offenses.
Meanwhile, the Interpol Bureau in Rabat has informed its German counterpart of the arrest, paving the way for extradition procedures. The operation highlights Morocco’s growing role in international security cooperation and its commitment to supporting global efforts aimed at tracking and arresting fugitives involved in transnational criminal activities.
