International Chemistry Forum opened in Rabat with industry leaders, policymakers and experts gathering to examine the growing role of chemistry in strengthening Morocco’s industrial integration and sustainable economic development.
Held under the High Patronage of Mohammed VI, the two-day event is organized by the Federation of Chemistry and Parachemistry in partnership with Ministry of Industry and Trade under the theme “Chemistry at the Heart of Industrial Integration.”
In a pre-recorded address, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour described the forum as a strategic platform shaping the future of Moroccan industry, emphasizing that chemistry remains “the industry of industries” because of its central role in linking industrial value chains across multiple sectors.
Mezzour highlighted the importance of the chemical sector within Morocco’s industrial ecosystem, particularly in areas such as phytosanitary products, paints, cosmetics and glass manufacturing. He also pointed to emerging opportunities linked to the circular economy, low-carbon industrial processes, innovative energy solutions and the development of sovereign active ingredients.
For his part, Abed Chagar said the chemical industry now represents nearly 30% of Morocco’s national industrial production and has remained the country’s leading industrial investment sector for the past two decades, generating more than MAD 190 billion.
The forum features several thematic panels dedicated to competitiveness, industrial sovereignty and the transformation required to build a more integrated, innovative and high-performance chemical ecosystem in Morocco.
