Saad Lamjarred was sentenced Friday by a French court to five years in prison in connection with a rape case dating back to 2018 in Saint-Tropez.
The verdict was delivered after a week-long trial before the criminal court in Draguignan, in southeastern France. Prosecutors had requested a ten-year prison sentence against the 41-year-old Moroccan artist.
Lamjarred, who has consistently denied the allegations against him, was also ordered to pay €30,000 in damages and €5,000 in legal fees. His lawyer, Christian Saint-Palais, declined to comment publicly following the ruling.
The case relates to accusations linked to events that allegedly took place in Saint-Tropez in 2018. The singer had previously spent three months in pre-trial detention that same year before being released under judicial supervision.
The conviction comes after Lamjarred was also sentenced in 2023 by a Paris criminal court to six years in prison in another rape case related to incidents dating back to 2016. He appealed that ruling and continues to deny all accusations against him.
According to reports from the hearing, the singer appeared emotional after the verdict was announced and embraced his wife and mother-in-law inside the courtroom. The court did not issue an immediate detention order against him.
