Morocco is reaffirming its commitment to advancing African air connectivity through its participation in the African Air Transport Convention and Exposition (AFCAC Expo 2026), currently taking place in Lomé, Togo.
Leading the Moroccan delegation is Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh, accompanied by senior officials from the aviation sector, including Morocco’s Ambassador to Benin and Togo Rachid Rguibi, National Airports Office Director General Adel El Fakir and Royal Air Maroc Chairman and CEO Abdelhamid Addou.
Organized by the African Civil Aviation Commission in partnership with the African Union, the event focuses on accelerating the development of a more integrated and competitive aviation market across the continent. Discussions are centered on the theme of a single African sky and the sustainable growth of air transport.
A key objective of the gathering is to advance the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), a continental initiative designed to liberalize air services, increase connectivity and facilitate trade and mobility between African nations.
The five-day summit has brought together transport ministers, civil aviation authorities, airline executives, investors and industry experts from across Africa. Participants are examining strategies to reduce air travel costs, strengthen the competitiveness of African carriers, attract infrastructure investment and accelerate the sector’s digital transformation.
The opening ceremony was attended by Faure Gnassingbé and Paul Kagame, reflecting the growing importance of aviation as a driver of regional integration and economic development.
For Morocco, participation in AFCAC Expo 2026 aligns with the Kingdom’s broader efforts to expand its role as a regional aviation hub linking Africa with Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. Improved connectivity is increasingly viewed as a strategic tool for boosting tourism, trade, investment and cross-border cooperation.
The event is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Lomé Ministerial Declaration and the launch of a new African cooperation platform aimed at supporting the integration and modernization of the continent’s air transport market.
As African countries seek to unlock the economic potential of greater connectivity, aviation leaders gathering in Lomé are positioning the sector as a key pillar of future growth, resilience and continental integration.
