Fuel prices in Morocco recorded a new adjustment on Friday, with gasoline prices rising by 0.5 dirham per liter while diesel prices remained unchanged, according to the National Federation of Owners, Traders and Managers of Service Stations.
The latest increase was announced by a major fuel distributor amid continued volatility in global oil markets and growing uncertainty linked to geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing confrontation between Iran and the United States.
The adjustment comes only weeks after fuel prices declined at the beginning of May following a series of increases observed during March and April. During the previous revision, diesel prices dropped by nearly one dirham per liter, while gasoline prices fell by around 1.10 dirhams.
Since the liberalization of the fuel market in 2015, Morocco has linked gasoline and diesel prices to international oil market fluctuations after ending state subsidies on fuel products.
Fuel prices remain a highly sensitive issue in the Kingdom due to their direct impact on transportation costs, food prices and household purchasing power, particularly amid broader inflationary pressures affecting consumers and businesses.
