Rabat once again confirmed its status as a major destination for international athletics as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan presided over the 17th edition of the World Athletics Meeting International Mohammed VI, the third stage of the prestigious Diamond League circuit and one of the most prominent events on the global athletics calendar.

Held at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, the competition brought together some of the world’s leading athletes, attracting international attention and reaching audiences through broadcasts on more than 150 television channels worldwide. Several meeting records were broken during the event, highlighting the exceptional level of competition on display.

The presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan reflects the importance that Morocco places on sport as a driver of development, inclusion and social cohesion. The event is organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whose vision has consistently promoted sport as a tool for empowering young people and strengthening the Kingdom’s international standing.

Since its launch in 2008, the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting has become one of the flagship sporting events in Africa. The competition forms part of the development strategy of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation and has played a key role in elevating Morocco’s profile within the global athletics community.

Rabat remains the only African city to host a Diamond League meeting, a distinction that reinforces Morocco’s growing influence in international sport. The event also contributes to promoting the Moroccan capital as a world-class destination, combining sporting excellence with cultural and historical prestige.

Supported by World Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics, the meeting joined the Diamond League circuit in 2016 after several successful years on the international athletics calendar. Today, it stands among the most important sporting gatherings in the world and continues to showcase Morocco’s ability to organize events of the highest international standards.

The 2026 Diamond League season features 15 meetings across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America, with Rabat maintaining its unique position as the circuit’s sole African stop, further illustrating the Kingdom’s growing role in global athletics under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
