The Syrian Arab Republic has reiterated its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, reaffirming its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over all of its territory during an official visit to Rabat led by Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani.
The position was outlined in a joint communiqué released following talks held in Morocco as part of Al-Shaibani’s first official visit to the Kingdom at the head of a high-level Syrian delegation. The visit reflects a renewed diplomatic momentum between Syria and Morocco after years of limited engagement.
According to the communiqué, Damascus also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, describing the resolution as an important step toward achieving a lasting political solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
The Syrian foreign minister emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and opening a new chapter in relations between the two nations across diplomatic, political and economic sectors.
The visit comes amid broader regional diplomatic shifts and growing support from several Arab and international partners for Morocco’s position regarding the Sahara issue, particularly within the framework of the United Nations-led political process.
