Morocco reported strong momentum across its industrial property sector, supported by the national roadmap implemented by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC). The strategy focuses on expanding innovation, accelerating the digital transformation of public services, strengthening institutional capacities and supporting businesses, researchers, universities and startups.
The country’s performance in 2025 reflected this progress, with continued growth in trademark, patent and industrial design applications. Digitalization has also advanced considerably, with more than 95% of OMPIC’s services now available through digital platforms.
Morocco also strengthened its international standing by climbing nine places in the 2025 Global Innovation Index, reinforcing its position among the leading innovation ecosystems in both Africa and the Arab world.
The Kingdom continues to expand initiatives designed to stimulate research and innovation, including its network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers, the IP Marketplace platform and the Moroccan Intellectual Property Academy. In partnership with WIPO, Morocco has also launched several regional initiatives, including a new master’s program dedicated to intellectual property and innovation.
On the copyright front, Morocco recently adopted new legislation aimed at modernizing the legal framework in response to digital transformation. The new law strengthens anti-piracy measures while introducing a remuneration system for rights holders that aligns with international standards.
The Moroccan Copyright and Neighboring Rights Office has also begun implementing a reprography remuneration mechanism intended to ensure fair compensation for authors, publishers, journalists, writers and media organizations, while supporting the continued development of the country’s publishing, cultural and creative industries.
Morocco reiterated its determination to deepen cooperation with WIPO and its member states in order to promote a more inclusive and efficient global intellectual property system capable of fostering economic, social and cultural development.
The 68th WIPO Assemblies are taking place in Geneva from July 7 to 15, bringing together representatives from 193 member states to discuss the organization’s budget, the evolution of the international intellectual property framework, specialized committee activities and improvements to global registration and protection systems.
