Police takes over probe into death of Six Nations woman

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are taking over a homicide investigation after a Six Nations woman was found dead in the Humber River earlier this month.

Police say the body of 56-year-old Ruth Ann Longboat of Six Nations Reserve was pulled from the water on the morning of March 8, 2022.

In a release Monday, Toronto police said the OPP has now taken over the investigation, with Toronto police providing assistance.

When asked why the OPP was now handling the case, Toronto police told CityNews it’s believed Longboat was killed in an OPP jurisdiction.

No further details were provided.
