Coronavirus: Quebec reports 28 more COVID-19 deaths

Health officials in B.C. are reporting 2,554 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province with 36,049 active cases.

Island Health has 412 new cases, and 3,193 active cases in the health region.

Of the active cases in the province, 534 people are in hospital – which is a record high, previously set at 515 on April 28, 2021- 102 people are in intensive care.

There are 65 people in hospital in Island Health, nine in intensive care.

There have been seven new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the province to 2,462. Two of the deaths were in Island Health.

Dufferin Place and Beacon Hill Villa in Island Health have new COVID outbreaks, adding to the eight active healthcare outbreaks in the health authority.

Interior Health has new outbreaks at Lakeview Lodge, Hamlets in Vernon, Brocklehurst Gemstone.

From Jan. 5-11, people who aren’t fully vaccinated accounted for 21 per cent of cases. From Dec. 29 to Jan. 11, they accounted for 34.5 per cent of hospitalizations.

Since December 2020, the Province has administered 9,897,611 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Fraser Health has 885 new confirmed cases, Vancouver Coastal Health has 485, Interior Health has 462, Northern Health has 304, and there are six new cases of people who normally reside outside Canada.

On Jan. 12, B.C. did 14,717 tests, 1,385 of which were in Island Health.
