Morocco Signs €405 Million AfDB Deal for Rail Expansion and Skills Development

Morocco has secured €405 million in financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to advance railway infrastructure and strengthen vocational training. The agreements, signed in Rabat on September 17, 2026, support two projects linked to the Kingdom’s long-term development priorities.

The AfDB representative linked both operations to Morocco’s preparations for future economic and social challenges. The official underlined the relationship between infrastructure development and skills enhancement, noting that railway expansion can support job creation and sustainable growth.

The agreements reflect a shared focus on modernizing transport networks while improving the skills needed to support economic opportunities. For Morocco, the combination of rail investment and vocational training forms part of a broader effort to strengthen competitiveness and inclusion.

The African Development Bank has been a longstanding financial partner of the Kingdom. Since 1978, the institution has mobilized more than €15 billion for over 150 projects in sectors including human development, water, agriculture, energy and transport.
