Moroccan Pharma Group Laprophan Expands into Europe with Rivopharm Acquisition

Morocco’s pharmaceutical industry has reached a new milestone as Laprophan Group completed the acquisition of Swiss pharmaceutical company Rivopharm, marking its first major investment in Europe and accelerating its international growth strategy.

The transaction gives Laprophan access to a well-established European platform with annual revenues of around $100 million. Rivopharm specializes in specialty medicines, complex formulations, pharmaceutical development and value-added healthcare solutions, while operating its own manufacturing facilities.

The acquisition significantly strengthens Laprophan’s presence across Europe and supports its ambition to build an international pharmaceutical platform connecting Europe, Africa, the Middle East and selected global markets.

The deal was carried out through Europhan, Laprophan’s Luxembourg-based European platform, which will serve as a strategic hub for the group’s international expansion. The Moroccan company already maintains operations in India, the United Arab Emirates and Côte d’Ivoire.

Through the acquisition, Laprophan gains access not only to Rivopharm’s Swiss industrial and development base but also to its European subsidiaries, including Rivopharm UK in the United Kingdom, Holsten Pharma in Germany and Sanoswiss in Lithuania. The expanded footprint gives the group direct access to key European markets while benefiting from a portfolio distributed in more than 30 countries worldwide.

The move brings together two complementary pharmaceutical companies with strong industrial capabilities and significant commercial, regulatory and operational synergies. Industry observers view the transaction as a strategic step that could enhance Laprophan’s competitiveness in pharmaceutical development, manufacturing and commercialization.

Integration efforts are already underway, with both companies working to ensure a smooth transition and accelerate the implementation of shared strategic priorities. According to management, the initial phase of integration is progressing as planned and confirms the strong strategic and cultural alignment between the two organizations.

For Laprophan, the acquisition represents a transformation from a leading Moroccan pharmaceutical company into an increasingly global healthcare player with a more diversified business model and a stronger position in the growing pharmaceutical B2B segment.

Laprophan Chairman Farid Bennis described the transaction as a defining moment in the company’s history. He said the acquisition reflects the group’s ambition to build an international pharmaceutical champion from Morocco, supported by industrial excellence, scientific expertise and a long-term commitment to improving access to quality medicines.

Founded more than 75 years ago, Laprophan is one of Morocco’s leading pharmaceutical groups. The company manages a portfolio of more than 500 products across 14 therapeutic areas and generates annual revenues exceeding $250 million.
