Coronavirus Canada Updates: Region reports 86 new COVID cases Sunday

Waterloo Region public health confirmed 86 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, compared to 65 on Saturday.

That puts the overall total at 16,621.

Hospitalizations remain stable with 33 people in hospital being treated for the virus — 20 are in intensive care.

The active caseload is up by 37 to 463.

Over 385,000 residents of Waterloo Region (18+) have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which works out to over 70 per cent. 40,000 plus residents (8.58 per cent) have been fully vaccinated.

3,454 cases have screened positive for variants of concern – 3,042 are the Alpha variant (first found in U.K.) – 11 are linked to the Beta variant (first detected in South Africa) – 35 are linked to the Delta strain (first located in India) – 60 are linked to the Gamma variant (first found in Brazil) – 306 cases where a mutation has been detected
The local death toll remains at 258. No new deaths were reported Sunday
15,890 resolved cases (95 per cent)
Over 501,900 tests have been done
