Attijariwafa bank is strengthening its international payments strategy by joining the Swift Payments Scheme, an initiative designed to make cross-border transfers faster, more predictable and more transparent for customers worldwide.
The Moroccan banking group’s decision marks another step in its long-standing cooperation with Swift. In 2020, Attijariwafa bank became the first Moroccan bank to obtain SWIFT gpi certification, positioning the group among the financial institutions seeking to improve the tracking and execution of international payments.
Through the Swift Payments Scheme, Attijariwafa bank aims to further improve the experience offered to both individual and corporate customers. The initiative is expected to contribute to more efficient international transfers, with greater visibility throughout the payment process.
The bank is currently working with other major international financial institutions to implement the technical and functional requirements needed for the initiative. Deployment is expected to take place progressively over the coming months.
For Attijariwafa bank, the move reflects the growing importance of international payments for Moroccan businesses and individuals operating across borders. Improving the speed and predictability of transfers can be particularly relevant for companies involved in international trade, cross-border transactions and relationships with overseas partners.
Tarik Irrou, Group Head of Payments, described the initiative as a clear commitment to anticipation, transparency and speed. He also highlighted the ambition to extend the benefits of the network to a larger number of customers and payment corridors in the coming months.
The initiative reinforces Attijariwafa bank’s efforts to align its international payment services with evolving global standards while expanding the reach and quality of cross-border financial transactions.
