Kazakhstan has strengthened its diplomatic footprint in Morocco by officially opening an Honorary Consulate in Marrakech, a move designed to support bilateral cooperation and deepen ties across business, tourism and institutional sectors. The new office will be headed by Younes Essassi, founder and CEO of Anfa Realties Group, who has been appointed Honorary Consul for the Marrakech jurisdiction.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Les Villas d’Anfa Marrakech, a residential development in the Chrifia district along the Tassoultante road. The event brought together Moroccan officials, business leaders and members of the diplomatic community alongside Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Morocco, Saulekul Sailaukyzy.
The Honorary Consulate is expected to serve as a local point of contact for Kazakh citizens living in or visiting the Marrakech region while also promoting stronger partnerships between Moroccan and Kazakh institutions, companies and cultural organizations. It will work closely with Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Rabat to facilitate bilateral initiatives and encourage new investment opportunities.
The opening reflects the growing momentum in relations between Morocco and Kazakhstan. Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992, the two countries have expanded cooperation through several important milestones, including the opening of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Rabat in 2020, the implementation of a reciprocal visa-free regime for stays of up to 30 days in 2025, and the creation of the Kazakhstan-Morocco Business Council.
Marrakech’s international profile and dynamic economy make it a strategic location for Kazakhstan’s expanding engagement in North Africa. The Honorary Consulate is expected to contribute to closer collaboration in sectors such as tourism, trade, investment and culture while strengthening links between public institutions and private-sector stakeholders.
As Honorary Consul, Younes Essassi will leverage his experience in Morocco’s business community to support economic diplomacy and foster new partnerships between the two countries. Operating under the guidance of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Morocco, the new diplomatic representation aims to create additional channels for cooperation and reinforce the long-term friendship between Morocco and Kazakhstan.
