Morocco’s women’s national team opened their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Kenya 4-0 on Sunday evening at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat to claim an early advantage in Group A.
Playing in front of their home supporters, the Atlas Lionesses quickly imposed their rhythm, dominating possession and putting Kenya under sustained pressure from the opening whistle. Their attacking intent was rewarded before the midway point of the first half when Sakina Ouzraoui finished a well-worked move after being set up by Yasmin Mrabet.
The breakthrough sparked an impressive spell for the hosts. Maryame Atiq doubled Morocco’s lead with a powerful header from a corner before Ibtissam Jraidi added a third just minutes later, leaving Kenya with a difficult task before halftime.
Morocco maintained the same intensity after the break. Less than two minutes into the second half, Jraidi struck again to complete her brace and extend the advantage to four goals, effectively putting the contest beyond doubt.
Despite the comfortable lead, the side coached by Jorge Vilda continued to control possession and create scoring opportunities while remaining disciplined at the back. Goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi was rarely troubled after an early Kenyan chance, as Morocco dictated play across the pitch.
The convincing victory came even without captain Ghizlane Chebbak, who was not included in the starting lineup for the tournament opener. Her teammates nevertheless delivered an accomplished collective performance that highlighted the squad’s depth and attacking quality.
The result gives Morocco three valuable points and plenty of confidence ahead of their second Group A fixture against Algeria. With a dominant display in their opening match, the Atlas Lionesses have sent a clear message about their ambitions to challenge for the continental title on home soil.
