One man is dead, and six others were transported to hospital, after a multi-vehicle crash on the Trans Canada Highway between Salmon Arm and Sicamous Saturday evening (Jan. 8).

Sicamous RCMP say early investigations determine a chain reaction crash started when an eastbound flat deck tractor-trailer jackknifed and completely blocked all three lanes of the highway – one eastbound and two westbound. Police add the crash involved several commercial tractor-trailers, a cube van, and other vehicles.

The deceased man was found pinned between his unit and the trailer of another unit that came to rest in front of his. RCMP say they’re working with BC Coroners Service to confirm his identify and notify his loved ones.

RCMP say the Trans Canada Highway near Bernie Road in the Sicamous area is expected to remain closed throughout the day Sunday (Jan. 9) while crews work to clear the road of vehicles and debris. As of publication, DriveBC says the next update on the road’s reopening is Sunday at 5 p.m.

Anyone with information about the crash, or has dash camera footage, is asked to contact Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878.
