Morocco is accelerating efforts to position itself as a regional hub for the video game industry as the country expands investment in gaming, digital entertainment and creative technologies. Speaking during the opening of the third edition of the in Rabat, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said the event is playing a major role in strengthening the country’s gaming ecosystem.

The minister stated that Morocco has significantly increased its focus on the gaming industry in recent years, viewing the sector as a future driver of employment, innovation and cultural economic growth. According to Bensaid, the global video game market now exceeds 300 billion dollars, with Morocco aiming to capture around 1% of global industry revenues by 2030 or 2032.

Officials say the country has witnessed rapid growth in gaming-related startups and specialized companies. The number of Moroccan startups operating in the gaming sector reportedly increased from only a handful in 2022 to more than 40 companies nationwide today.

The government considers gaming and esports as strategic industries capable of creating new digital jobs while improving Morocco’s international visibility in technology and creative industries. The sector is also increasingly linked to broader national ambitions around digital transformation, youth employment and technological innovation.

The third edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo was officially opened under the chairmanship of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, highlighting the growing institutional importance attached to the development of Morocco’s gaming industry.
