Morocco has established itself as an indispensable model for reform, development and regional stability under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, according to U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson during the inaugural international edition of the MAP Town Hall held in Washington.

In a recorded address, the Republican lawmaker praised the Kingdom’s progress in constitutional reforms, economic modernization, women’s empowerment and the promotion of religious coexistence among Muslims, Christians and Jews. He said these achievements have strengthened Morocco’s position as a reference point for stability and development across North Africa and the Mediterranean region.

Wilson also highlighted the long-standing relationship between Morocco and the United States, recalling that the Kingdom was the first country to recognize American independence in 1777. He noted that the Treaty of Peace and Friendship signed in 1786 remains the oldest unbroken diplomatic treaty in U.S. history, reflecting more than two centuries of enduring cooperation.

Describing Morocco as a trusted American ally, the congressman emphasized that bilateral ties have continued to deepen through political dialogue, security cooperation and economic partnerships. He pointed to the U.S.-Morocco Free Trade Agreement as a major driver of trade, which now approaches $10 billion annually while supporting investment and employment in both countries.

The MAP Town Hall was held under the theme “Kingdom of Morocco – United States of America: From Historic Partnership to Strategic Alliance.” The event brought together policymakers, diplomats, academics, business leaders and representatives of prominent American think tanks to examine the evolution and future of relations between Rabat and Washington.

The gathering reflected the renewed momentum in Morocco-U.S. relations under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and U.S. President Donald Trump, reinforcing a strategic partnership that continues to expand across diplomacy, security, trade and regional cooperation.
