Marhaba 2026 Begins at Al Hoceima with First Ferry from Spain

Morocco’s Marhaba 2026 operation officially entered a new phase this week as the Port of Al Hoceima welcomed its first ferry arrival from Spain, marking the start of the summer return of Moroccans living abroad through the Mediterranean gateway.

The vessel, which departed from Motril in southern Spain, arrived carrying 571 passengers and 147 vehicles. The crossing signals the gradual increase in maritime traffic expected over the coming weeks as thousands of Moroccan expatriates travel home for the summer holidays.

The operation is being carried out under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, with the objective of ensuring smooth travel conditions and quality assistance for members of the Moroccan diaspora returning to the Kingdom.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is coordinating Marhaba 2026 in partnership with port authorities, local administrations, National Police, the Royal Gendarmerie, Customs, Civil Protection, health services and other public institutions involved in passenger reception and border operations.

At Al Hoceima Port, dedicated arrangements have been deployed to facilitate arrivals, streamline administrative procedures and improve traffic flow throughout the terminal. Reception and guidance areas have also been established to help travelers complete entry formalities quickly while receiving assistance whenever needed.

Special attention is being given to elderly passengers, families and vulnerable travelers through dedicated support services designed to make the arrival process safer and more comfortable.

Passengers arriving on the first crossing welcomed the reopening and continued operation of the Motril–Al Hoceima maritime route, noting that it shortens travel times and provides a practical alternative for Moroccans residing in Europe. Several travelers also praised the organization and reception measures implemented at the port.

Al Hoceima occupies a strategic position during the Marhaba campaign, serving as an important gateway for Moroccan families returning to the northern and Oriental regions. The seasonal influx of visitors also contributes to local economic activity, tourism and commercial exchanges during the busy summer period.

Authorities expect maritime traffic through the port to continue increasing in the coming weeks as the peak holiday season approaches. Logistics, staffing and coordination efforts will remain fully mobilized to ensure efficient operations and maintain the high standards of service established for Marhaba 2026.
