Both in Estevan and throughout the province, the long weekend saw nothing but a steady decline in active cases of COVID-19. That decline continued today as active cases fell below 1500 for the first time since March. Also, there were no deaths to report for the second day in a row.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority reported 111 new cases of COVID-19 today for a provincial total of 45,820. There were also 197 new recoveries today for a total of 43,842, leaving 1451 active cases in the province.

The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 has been declining as well, albeit a bit more slowly. As of today, there are 136 people in hospital, 30 of whom require intensive care. The seven-day average of daily new cases is 139, the lowest that number has been since March 20.

Today’s new cases are located in the following zones: Far North West, 2; North West, 11; North Central, 19; North East, 1; Saskatoon, 45; Central West, 4; Central East, 5; Regina, 15; South West, 2; South Central, 2; and South East, 3. There are also two new cases with pending residence information.

One of the three cases in the South East is in subzone South East 4, which includes Estevan. Active cases in Estevan’s subzone have dropped to less than half of what they were two weeks ago, as there are now 60 active cases in the subzone. There are now 103 active cases of the virus in the South East.

Yesterday, the province processed 1,543 COVID-19 tests. They also administered 2,339 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for a total of 665,193. Premier Scott Moe announced over the weekend the province had surpassed the threshold needed for step two of the reopening plan, with 70 percent of the population over the age of 30 having received their first shot.
