Morocco’s expanding cultural influence and thriving creative industries received strong recognition this week from the President of the Arab World Institute (IMA), Anne-Claire Legendre, during a visit to Casablanca.
Speaking at a press conference held at the French Institute of Casablanca, Legendre highlighted the remarkable transformation of Morocco’s cultural landscape, praising the energy, creativity and innovation displayed by artists, cultural entrepreneurs and emerging talents across the Kingdom.
She pointed to the growing strength of Morocco’s visual arts, music and cultural industries, describing the country as home to a vibrant and dynamic creative ecosystem. According to Legendre, this momentum reflects a long-term cultural vision promoted under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has supported the development of major cultural institutions and encouraged the emergence of a new generation of creators.
The Arab World Institute is now looking to deepen its cooperation with Morocco in several strategic sectors linked to the creative economy. Discussions are underway with Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication to launch initiatives that will help young Moroccan artists gain greater international exposure.
Future collaboration could include residency programs, publishing opportunities, exhibitions and professional exchanges. Several creative fields are being considered, including gaming, design, fashion, contemporary art and literature, sectors that continue to attract growing interest both in Morocco and abroad.
Legendre also emphasized the richness of Morocco’s cultural heritage, noting ongoing discussions with national institutions dedicated to preserving historical archives, archaeological resources and documentary heritage. These exchanges aim to develop joint projects focused on research, preservation and international promotion.
The visit further highlighted the longstanding relationship between Morocco and the Arab World Institute. As one of the institution’s founding member countries, the Kingdom has played an important role in supporting cultural dialogue between the Arab world and Europe.
With creative industries becoming an increasingly important economic driver worldwide, Morocco continues to strengthen its position as a leading cultural hub in Africa and the Mediterranean region, combining heritage preservation with support for innovation and contemporary artistic expression.
