Morocco’s growing role in international peacebuilding was highlighted in London during a high-level reception organized by the Kingdom’s Embassy in the United Kingdom to mark United Nations Peacebuilding Week.
The event brought together diplomats, representatives of the British Foreign Office, civil society leaders and international policy experts. Organized in partnership with ODI Global, a leading think tank focused on international development and cooperation, the gathering celebrated two decades since the creation of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, currently chaired by Morocco.
Addressing attendees, Morocco’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hakim Hajoui, underlined the Kingdom’s longstanding commitment to promoting peace and stability through multilateral action. He emphasized Morocco’s active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, carried out in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The ambassador also highlighted Morocco’s contribution to international discussions on the future of peacebuilding and peacekeeping operations. Through its leadership of the UN Peacebuilding Commission and its coordinating role within the Non-Aligned Movement on peacekeeping issues, the Kingdom continues to advocate for more effective responses to global security challenges.
Morocco’s diplomatic engagement has gained additional visibility in recent months. In May, the Kingdom co-chaired alongside France the Second Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in a Francophone Environment, an event that culminated in the adoption of the Rabat Declaration aimed at strengthening international cooperation in peace operations.
During the reception, ODI Global President Dr. Sara Pantuliano praised Morocco’s sustained efforts in supporting peacebuilding initiatives across different regions of the world. She noted that the Kingdom’s current leadership of the UN Peacebuilding Commission places it at the center of global efforts to address emerging conflicts and promote long-term stability.
As geopolitical tensions and security challenges continue to evolve, Morocco’s diplomatic approach and commitment to multilateral cooperation are increasingly positioning the country as a respected voice in international peacebuilding and conflict prevention initiatives.
