A 27-year-old man died in motor vehicle collision Saturday night after crashing into a building.

At shortly after 9 p.m., Winnipeg Police said officers were attempting a traffic stop on a vehicle with lapsed insurance in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street when the driver of the car failed to stop. He fled but was not pursued, police said.

Soon after, the vehicle was found to have collided with a building in the 500 block of Selkirk, containing a small pizza restaurant. The 27-year-old driver was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Traffic Division. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-7085.
