A 28-year-old Toronto man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a two-year-old girl.

On Friday, March 19, Toronto police responded to a call for a sudden death at a hospital in the city’s west end.

Investigators report a two-year-old girl, who has not been identified, was brought to the hospital in medical distress.

The child succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased, police said.

Initially, members of 31 Division’s Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre oversaw the initial investigation.

A post-mortem examination determined the toddler died as a result of blunt force trauma.

The homicide squad then took over the investigation.

Rodrigo Flores Romero, 28, of Toronto, was arrested on Monday, May 10.

He is facing one count of second-degree murder.

Romeo has May 11 court appearance.
