Two Mississauga parents have been charged with abandoning their infant in an overheated vehicle, police said.

Police responded to reports of a distressed child under the age of one left alone in a car in the Tranmere Drive and Derry Road E. area Tuesday.

The infant was removed from the overheated vehicle and taken to a local hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Investigators charged a 28-year-old man and 27-year-old woman with failing to provide the necessities of life and abandoning child.

They are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 9.

Police said they are working with community support services to ensure the well being of the child.

Police highlighted the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles as the weather becomes hotter.
