Francia Raisa Details Recovery After Donating Kidney To Selena Gomez, Report

Francia Raisa Said Selena Gomez Could Have Died After Her Kidney Transplant.

Selena Gomez shocked everyone last summer when she shared on Instagram that she underwent a kidney transplant. Gomez’s donor was her long-time best friend, Francia Raisa, who just shared Gomez could have died after the transplant.

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Raisa gave more details than she ever has and said the recovery process was difficult for both of them.

“I didn’t want to eat, I didn’t want to drink anything,” Raisa said. “Selena did have a complication, too. A few hours after our surgery, I woke up and had a text from her that said, ‘I’m really scared.'” She also said Gomez “could have died” from the complications of the procedure, which she needed because she has lupus.

Raisa said doctors had to immediately take a vein from Gomez’s leg and build a new artery to keep Gomez’s new kidney stable. Raisa previously shared Gomez’s second surgery took six-hours.

In the W interview, Raisa said the two of them didn’t immediately share the news of the transplant because they both had tough recoveries and were depressed.

She also told the magazine she scored the role of Yara Shahidi’s roommate on Grownish after auditioning for the part only two weeks after the surgery. Now, Raisa is working on producing her own projects and Gomez shared on Instagram that she’s working on new music for this year.

“I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life but changed mine in the process,” Raisa previously said.
