Four youths and one adult were injured after a semi and an SUV collided in southeast Edmonton Monday morning, police say.

In an email statement, Edmonton police said all five injured persons were the occupants of a Dodge Journey travelling south on 76 Street at about 11:55 a.m. — the same time a tractor-trailer was performing a U-turn at 76 Street and Millbourne Road.

Police said one of the SUV occupants suffered life-threatening injuries, while another sustained serious injuries that are not life-threatening.

Three other SUV occupants also sustained injuries that are not life-threatening while the driver of the semi reported no injuries, police added.

Police believe speed was a factor in the collision, which is still under investigation.
