Erin O’Toole is the new leader of the federal Conservative Party. He won the leadership on the third ballot but because of mechanical problems with voting machines the victory wasn’t announced until the early morning hours.

The Candidate of Record for the Conservatives in Bay of Quinte riding is Tim Durkin.
Durkin says it’s time to move on and ready for an election.

“the social conservatives, the fiscal conservatives, the red tories…we have to unite under that big tent and unite to defeat the federal government, the government of Justin Trudeau.”

Meanwhile, Conservative Party President for Bay of Quinte riding Steve Halloran is looking forward to working with the new leader.

Erin O’Toole has been a good friend of Bay of Quinte and making that connection with us that he does on a regular basis, keeping that relationship strong in Ottawa will definitely help us in the Bay of Quinte area.”

Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan was dropped from the race on the first ballot.
Peter Mackay finished second and Leslyn Lewis third.
Around 175,000 votes were cast.
