An elderly woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Vaughan.

York Regional Police were called to Highway 7 at Vaughan Valley Road around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday for reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

Officers located an elderly woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, police said.

Eastbound Highway 7 from Highway 427 to Highway 27 is closed for the investigation.

The intersection of Vaughan Valley Boulevard and Highway 7 was shut down for several hours as officers gathered evidence. The roads were reopened early Monday.
