Ottawa Public Health reports 142 more Ottawa residents have tested positive for COVID-19, the highest one-day increase in new cases of novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 142 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ottawa on Thursday, along with two new deaths.

Sixty-three of the 142 new cases of COVID-19 involved Ottawa residents between the ages of 20 and 39.

The record number of new cases of COVID-19 prompted Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches to warn Ottawa’s “health care system is in crisis because of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Since the first case of COVID-19 on March 11, there have been 4,530 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 291 deaths.

There are currently 24 people in an Ottawa hospital with COVID-19 related illnesses, including four in the ICU.

Across Ontario, 732 new cases of COVID-19 were reported, with 323 new cases in Toronto and 111 in Peel Region.

The 141 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa on Friday is the single highest one-day total for new cases since the start of the pandemic. The previous high was 105 new cases, set back on Tuesday.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa

There are 767 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, the highest number of active cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There were 677 active cases of COVID-19 reported on Thursday.

A total of 3,472 people have recovered after testing positive for COVID-19.

0-9 years old: Eleven new cases (256 cases total)
10-19 years-old: 21 new cases (419 cases total)
20-29 years-old: 44 new cases (957 cases total)
30-39 years-old: 19 new cases (623 cases total)
40-49 years-old: 15 new cases (564 cases total)
50-59 years-old: Eight new cases (520 cases total)
60-69-years-old: Four new cases (375 cases total)
70-79 years-old: Ten new cases (263 cases total)
80-89 years-old: Five new case (327 cases total)
90+ years old: Three new case (224 cases total)
The ages of two cases is still unknown.
