Cegelec Morocco Marks 80 Years of Engineering Excellence

With eight decades of experience behind it, Cegelec Morocco is strengthening its position as a major engineering and infrastructure player, extending its expertise from the Kingdom to markets across Africa and the Middle East.

Founded in 1946, the company has evolved alongside Morocco’s economic and industrial development. From its early activities in electrical engineering to major projects involving energy, water, industry and advanced technologies, Cegelec has progressively expanded its technical capabilities to meet the country’s changing infrastructure needs.

The company celebrated its 80th anniversary on October 21 in Casablanca, bringing together nearly 1,500 current and former employees. The gathering highlighted the role of successive generations of engineers and technicians in building the company’s expertise and supporting its international expansion.

As part of VINCI Energies in Africa, Cegelec Morocco reported revenue of MAD 8 billion in 2025 and employs approximately 4,400 people. Its operations cover energy infrastructure, industrial facilities, buildings and information and communication technologies.

Beyond its historical electrical engineering activities, the company has diversified into several strategic sectors, including healthcare, hospitality, sports, education, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, agri-food and airport infrastructure. This evolution reflects the growing technical requirements of Morocco’s industrial and infrastructure projects.

Its international operations have also become an important growth driver. Since 2014, Cegelec Morocco has developed a presence in sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to major electricity transmission and distribution projects.

Among its achievements is an electricity interconnection network extending more than 1,000 kilometres of 225 kV lines, connecting The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. The company has also delivered more than 30 extra-high-voltage substations in Mauritania, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Benin, alongside electrification projects extending as far as Rwanda.

The group’s engineering capabilities are also being deployed in large-scale construction projects. In Abidjan, its teams are currently working on all technical packages for a 421-metre tower, which is set to become Africa’s tallest building.

In the Middle East, where Cegelec Morocco has been active since 2018, the company has expanded its involvement in high-voltage electricity infrastructure. Following the completion of major 400 kV substations in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, it launched three additional projects in 2025, including two in Saudi Arabia and one in the United Arab Emirates.

These international contracts are accompanied by initiatives to train local teams and transfer technical knowledge across the company’s regional operations.

For Abdellah Sabri, Managing Director of VINCI Energies in Africa and CEO of Cegelec Morocco, the company’s 80-year history reflects the contribution of successive generations of employees who have continuously adapted their expertise to technological developments.

Looking ahead, the Moroccan operation remains a strategic platform for deploying engineering capabilities across international markets. Its development is built around technical innovation, workforce training and the transfer of Moroccan expertise to major infrastructure projects throughout Africa and the Middle East.
